A note inspired by Book upon the loss of his planet in Season 4, Episode 1 of Star Trek: Discovery and all losses of all kinds in all forms
We are natural born killers. The spirit of the once living body always already is part of all that is, and the body joins the earth. We wash our faces, killing the mites that live on our skin. Immune systems kill viruses. A step taken brings death to the little things visible or invisible to the naked eye on the ground beneath the foot. Plants eaten are alive just as the flesh once was. We, as with all living things, are death, and we all are consumed by death. Even still, belief systems, morality, ethics—a sense of the just—provide grace and integrity in the circle of existence.
